10 Things To Do With Your Kids at the State Fair of Oklahoma

Welcome to day 10 of 31 Awesome Fall Activities With Your Kids.  Fairs are a great fall activity for you and your kids to enjoy together.  County fairs and State fairs are both great.  Even better if your kids participate in the fair.  My daughter has participated in the local county fair and is always so excited about going.  This post focuses on 10 Things To Do With Your Kids at the State Fair of Oklahoma.  Some of these ideas will work with any state fair.

Road Trip games

We love going to the State Fair of Oklahoma.  There is always something for everyone to do, and I enjoy all the fantastic food they have to offer! I decided to create a list of  10 things to do with Kids at the State Fair of Oklahoma.

I had to be in Oklahoma City for a doctor’s appointment in September.  Usually, when we go to OKC we try to do something fun with the girls, mostly depending on what’s going on and if we have any extra spending money.  I realized the State Fair would be in the city while we were there, so I bought tickets for Disney on Ice for myself and my youngest daughter.  My husband did not want to go and I thought my oldest would not be able to go because of a band, but later found out she could go with us.  They ended up going to the movies while my youngest and I went to Disney on Ice.

Food

There is nothing like the variety of extraordinary food at the State Fair!  My youngest had a corn dog and my oldest had pizza for lunch.  I know, not creative or very unique but still fair food.  My husband and I had gyros for lunch.  We all had freshly squeezed lemonade and a few refills.  Every place we refilled our lemonade it had a variety of sweetness and tartness.  Later we tried deep-fried pickles, chocolate-dipped cheesecake, deep-fried cheesecake, and cotton candy. There are so many choices, it’s crazy.  You can visit this site for a list of all the food available at the 2018 state fair. Fair tip:  Bring Cash!  You don’t want to have to use the ATM and pay the fees.

Petting Zoo

The State Fair has a free small petting zoo that is irresistible to both of my daughters.  You can pay $5 for 2 cups of food, and they also have a gumball machine to get a small amount of food on the inside of the fence that is only 50 cents.  Make sure to bring quarters!  They have goats, sheep, deer, alpacas, wallabies, pot belly pigs, ducks, and chickens.  Some of the goats act like they are starving (but do not look it) and one of them followed me and my youngest daughter all over the zoo.  My oldest got down on the ground to feed a goat and suddenly was surrounded by goats!  She laughed and easily got up, but it looked dicey for a second.

Oklahoma Expo Building

This was probably my youngest daughter’s favorite building, because of her love for animals.  They had chickens!  This building houses the AGtropolis, the Barnyard Birthing Center, and 4-H and FFA Exhibits.   Of course, she was mostly into all of the animals.  While we were there a cow was giving birth!  So, you never know what you might experience in this building.

Face Painting

Inside the OK Expo building, we discovered a face painting booth.  Ok, we did not discover it, we asked a dad who had several kids with faces painted where they had it done.  My daughter got a face painting kit from one of her aunts and bugged us one weekend to paint her face like Puss in Boots, which we ended up doing 3 different times for her.  At the booth, she wanted the most expensive cat face!  The prices ranged from $6-$15.  We gave in and let her do the $15 on and made our oldest pick a $6 face paint, telling her she was too old for face pain anyway.  Lol!  They both looked super cute!  And got several compliments on their faces the rest of the day.

Modern Living Building

They had lots of hands-on activities for kids, plus brain puzzles.  My youngest had fun trying the athletic activities and my oldest and husband enjoyed the brain puzzles.

Centennial Building

We got to taste ice cream made from nitrogen for free.  They have lots of other vendors to check out in this building.  There was a neat toy store, so of course, we had to stop there.

Plaza Stage

We saw two shows at the 2018 State Fair of Oklahoma.  We saw Puppies of Penzance and I believe this was my youngest daughter’s favorite fair show, because of her love of dogs.  The show is pirate themed and all of the dogs are rescues.  The dogs do lots of cute tricks and my daughter laughed so much.  We also saw Pirate Magic of Rafael and Katia, which of course, was also pirate themed.  It was a cute magic show and they brought up several kids and a couple of adults to volunteer.  I think both shows are perfect for families to enjoy together.  There is plenty of seating, the area is shaded, and the shows are short enough to keep your child attentive.  Another bonus, the shows are both free!  They play several times a day.

Bennett Event Center

This building holds the auto show.  You may not think children would care that much about looking at cars, but mine enjoyed it.  You can get inside the cars and really get a good luck at many new models, plus enter some drawings to win a vehicle.  My oldest searched for a phone charge jack in the back seat of every car she looked at.  Go figure!  LOL!  She also picked out her favorite cars.  Her dad and I said, yes you can have any car you want, but you have to get a job and pay for it.  For now, she gets to drive her daddy’s beat up old pick-up.

The Midway

We stayed away from the Midway this year with all the carnival rides and games, but it is one of the top places to take your kids for fun.  Expect to spend quite a bit of money, unless you go on days/nights with discounts.  You can learn more about all of the rides, hours, and prices here.  Armbands range from $35-$45 depending on what day you visit.

Disney on Ice

This is my favorite and the main reason we went to the fair!  Disney puts on a fantastic show and it is well worth the price of admission.  You can buy advanced tickets online.  For additional information visit this site.  My youngest daughter and I sat in box seats and I thought they were perfect!  You can read my post Tips for Disney On Ice (will be posted in the near future) to get additional information before you book or go.
