How to Make Simple Healthy Chocolate Peppermint Syrup

Looking for a healthy way to have peppermint chocolate syrup? Maybe in your favorite frappe or mocha coffee? Well, today is your lucky day. I’m going to tell you How to Make Simple Healthy Chocolate Peppermint Syrup.

I’ve become addicted to Mocha Frappes, but they have so many calories. Recently I noticed I was putting on the pounds! I knew I needed to do something about my weight. I started the 21 Day Fix Diet to help me try to drop a few pounds and work on a healthier me!

I’m not here to advertise the 21 Day Fix diet. I’ll let someone else do that for you. I just want to share with your a healthier version of chocolate syrup. Since it’s close to Christmas, I’ve been really craving Chocolate Peppermint flavors! 1 teaspoon of syrup = 1 tsp of sweetener on the 21-day fix diet.

This chocolate peppermint syrup has a hint of sweet taste full of chocolate and mint flavor! It is super easy and quick to make! I have found other recipes and tried them and none of them were just right. So, I decided to create my own peppermint chocolate syrup.

Healthy Chocolate Peppermint Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • 3/4 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In a medium sized saucepan over medium heat, whisk maple syrup and water together. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low.
  • Whisk the cocoa powder into the syrup and water mixture. Simmer for 1-2 minutes. The syrup should thicken by then possibly quicker. Really watch it, you do not want it to burn.
  • Remove syrup from heat. Stir in both extracts and salt.
  • You can store the syrup in the fridge for several months. You may need to stir the mixture or shake it before use.

Mocha Peppermint Frappe

I love using this Chocolate Peppermint Syrup recipe to make Mocha Peppermint Frappes. You can also make mocha frappes with the syrup my subbing the peppermint extract for vanilla extract. For the recipe below on the 21-day fix, this would be 1 tsp (for the almond milk) and 2 tsp (sweetener) for the sugar and syrup.

Mocha Peppermint Frappe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of strong coffee
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp homemade chocolate peppermint syrup see above
  • 1 tsp raw sugar

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients together in a jaw (I use a Starbucks frappuccino jar). Add lid and shake, then place in the freezer for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from the freezer, shake, and drink.
