How to Plan a Fabulous Mother’s Day Getaway – Weekend or Day Out

What Does My Mom Want for Mother’s Day?

I asked myself, what would my mom love for Mother’s Day?  What would I love for Mother’s Day when my daughter becomes an adult?  The first thing that came to my mind was time.  As adults, our lives get so busy and we don’t spend much time with our parents.  It is especially hard when you don’t live in the same town or even the same state.  My mother is only 15 miles away, in the next town over.  I usually see her once a week, and that is mostly due to her helping me out with my daughter.  I thought the least I could do for my mom was plan a fun day trip or weekend trip that I know she would enjoy! The Brilliant Idea!

I have big plans for Mother’s Day!  I was inspired by a co-worker last year who took her mother on a fun weekend getaway for Mother’s Day.  Initially, I had planned on buying my mother the typical gift, usually plants for her garden.  But, I came across this great deal on Groupon, and I knew it was perfect for my Mom and me to do together, plus I was really wanting to do something fun with her.  My youngest daughter heard about my plans and decided she was going with us.  So of course, she is going too!  When you plan your own Mother’s Day Getaway, you can take your kids or leave them home with Dad.  You can even invite other siblings to come along.  It’s all up to you.

Where my Mom and I Will be Going for our Mother’s Day Weekend Getaway

I stumbled across a great Hotel deal on Groupon and booked it. If you want to know more about Groupon, you can read my post about it here It’s a great place to find so many good deals!  Restaurants, fun activities, tours, hotels, vacations, classes, etc.   My Mom and I are both big fans of The Pioneer Woman on the Food Network.  I actually followed her blog long before she was on TV.  I came across a Groupon for The Price Tower Hotel in Bartlesville, OK (which is not far from Pawhuska) and knew right away this was going to happen for Mother’s Day for my mom!  The price was $99 a night, plus I had a credit on Groupon, so I ended up paying only $57 for a night at Price Tower Hotel!  Before I booked it I wanted to make sure that “the Lodge” would be open to visitors.  I knew that occasionally she allowed visitors to “the Lodge”, where they film her cooking show.  I looked on her website and found out what dates it would be open in May.  Then I booked our stay according to that.  I can’t wait to visit the Pioneer Woman’s Restaurant and shop at the Mercantile.  I know we are going to have a blast!  Of course, I will post all about it when we get back.

Other Ways to Plan A Mother’s Day Weekend or Getaway – Using Discounts

Groupon

I’m going to go over Groupon a bit since that is what we used.  You can also read my other post about using Grouponfor our vacation in Branson.   How to find a hotel or resort:

  1. If you haven’t signed up for Groupon yet, you can do that now
  2. Look for the tab that says “Getaways” and click on it
  3. You can do a search by adding your dates and destinations.  You can also just put in the state you live in, and it will pull up several cities, then you can click on the city.  For example, I could search Oklahoma, then click on Bartlesville to find The Price Tower, which is where we are staying.
  4. Or you can go to the column on the left and click on a destination or interest.
  5. Read all the details carefully for your Groupon.  You will have to call your destination to book your nights.  There are sometimes limits on when you can book, and what days you can book.  So please pay careful attention to the description.
  6. Call the hotel and book your stay using your Groupon code.  Pretty simple!
  7. You can also search for gifts, spas, restaurants, and things to do for other Mother’s Day ideas.  Make sure to search your area.  This tab is at the top and says “Search Groupon”, right next to that put your area in.  You can just search in your area, then click on the tabs in the left column to search for specific deals, such as spas or food and drink.

Air B&B

I love searching through Air B&B to find great deals for my family!  Air B&B is really great for anyone planning a trip and would love to find a place to stay that is not a Hotel!  They have so many unique places too.  Houses, condos, apartments, cabins, lake houses, tree houses, boathouses, the list goes on!  Where ever your travel plans may lead you, see what Air B&B has to offer.  If you have never used Air B&B you can use my link to get $40 off your first stay!  This is my referral link, and I will receive $20 credit with Air B&B after your trip.  You can read about my disclosure policy here.  Air B&B has great deals, even without the $40 off, so you need to check them out.  I would love it if you read my post that tells you more about Air B&B and our stay in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the base of Pikes Peak!  We had such a fabulous time, and it is something we will never forget.

Ebates

Lots of people use Ebates for shopping and receiving rebates.  But you can also book hotels and receive a rebate after your hotel stay!  You can read my Ebates post to learn a little bit more about how it works.  You can get cash back when you book certain hotels.  Cash back from Ebates is super easy!

eBay

Did you know you can buy someone’s timeshare week on eBay?  And you won’t have to listen to a timeshare sales pitch, because you will be checking in as if you own the timeshare!  We used this method when we stayed at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, MO, and let me tell you we had a blast!  Big Cedar is such an awesome resort, and is great for anyone to get away!  Including a mother-daughter trip.  You can read all about my experience booking our trip to Branson and staying at Big Cedar Lodge.  If you do go to Branson with your mom, there are so many things to do I can’t list them all here.  You can check out some of our other Branson posts to see what my family and I did while we visited Branson.  Go to the vacation tab, then click on Branson, MO.  It will pull up all the things we did while we were there.
