Ultra BBQ Chicken Nuggets

Ultra BBQ chicken Nuggets

I don’t think there are too many children out there that do not like chicken nuggets. I know they are one of my daughter’s favorite meals. I’ve spoiled her a little bit with my homemade Ultra Crispy Fried Chicken Nuggets. Today I’m adding a new twist to the recipe with Ultra BBQ chicken Nuggets. Perfect for tailgating, the Super Bowl, snacks, and a meal!

We live in Oklahoma, it’s not quite the south, but it’s close enough that BBQ foods could be their own food group. Today I’m twisting our favorite nugget recipe into flavorful BBQ chicken nuggets with our favorite BBQ Sauce, Head Country. My family gobbles these down, even my husband who is not a big fan of chicken.

I use a boneless skinless chicken breast in this recipe, but you can also use thighs. I only use one very large breast because most nights it’s just the three of us eating and I will always make at least one side to go with our nuggets. You can easily multiply this recipe for more servings.

A few recipes that will be a great side:

How to Make Ultra BBQ Chicken Nuggets

This is a new technique I recently learned. In the past, I would place them on paper towels after frying them. Placing them on a wire rack makes a big difference in the crispness. I’m so glad I started doing this!

For the BBQ Sauce

Remove oil from your skillet (if you used a skillet, you can use a fresh plate or bowl if you used a deep fryer) and wipe clean with a towel. Place nuggets back in pan, stove turned off. Mix BBQ sauce and Molasses together in a small bowl, then pour over nuggets and stir until all are coated.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoy my homemade Ultra BBQ Chicken Nuggets recipe. Kids are sure to love them dipped in ketchup. I love to dip them in ranch dressing with a little bit of Tobasco sauce mixed in.

Calories 1022.99kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 large chicken breast
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/3 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 egg
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 C BBq Sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Molasses

Instructions

  • In a pie pan or other shallow dish mix the milk and egg. In the next bowl mix flour, salt, and old bay seasoning (hold the bread crumbs back at this time)
  • Cut chicken breast into bite-size pieces.
  • Dip nuggets into the flour mixture, then dip into the egg mixture.
  • Now add the breadcrumbs to the flour mixture.
  • Pour some of the egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir well. This will give you some nice lumps, which will make the nuggets extra crispy.
  • Now dip nuggets into the flour/breadcrumb mixture.
  • Fry nuggets in oil. Deep fry or fry in a skillet about 5 minutes per side.
  • Always make sure chicken is fully done with no pink in the center.
  • Remove chicken from skillet and place on a wire rack. This will make them extra crispy by letting the oil drip off.
  • Remove grease from skillet and wipe clean. Place nuggets back in the skillet, with the heat turned off.
  • Mix BBQ sauce and molasses.
  • Pour over chicken nuggets and stir to coat.
