Years ago I made an apron from a handkerchief for my oldest daughter. It has gotten a lot of use in our house and now my youngest daughter uses it. Since we do lots of crafts and cooking, this apron was a perfect addition to our craft supplies. I decided to show you how to make this Easy DIY Kids Apron from a Handkerchief.
When it comes to sewing I enjoy simple and fun projects. My sewing skills are pretty basic, so this apron is a very easy apron to make.
I let my daughter pick out the handkerchief/bandana she liked best. Hobby Lobby has a big selection of handkerchiefs/bandanas, but you can also find them at Walmart. She really likes tie-dye, so this was fitting for her to choose. We’ve done a few tie-dye t-shirts at three of our town’s many fundraisers. Our town has come together to raise money for our local EMS, and cancer patients, to our local all volunteer-run movie theatre.
Supplies
- Handkerchief/Bandana
- Ribbon
- Sewing Machine (you could also hand sew this)
- Thread
- Scissors
Instructions
Fold the bandana in half. Cut bandana to fit your child. I used a shirt of my daughter’s to measure. I cut it from the shoulder to a little past the armpit.
Measure with a shirt 
Cut 3 pieces of ribbon. The first to fit around your child’s
Hem all the raw edges. Luckily, with handkerchiefs, there should be few raw edges to hem.

This will go around the neck 
Place ribbone under each armpit. Sew x to secure
This handkerchief apron is a very simple craft to put together. Your child will love it and now they will have this apron to protect their clothing while crafting, baking, gardening, etc.
