Eating in Galveston. Where my family ate in Galveston, TX

Where my Family Ate While Visiting Galveston, TX

Where my family ate while visiting Galveston.  I researched several different places on Trip Advisor and a few blogs before we even left for Galveston, Texas.  I also did some research once we got there.  Our main goal was it had to be kid-friendly.

Road Trip games

My husband can be picky, but he is up for trying new things too.  My youngest will try almost anything, the oldest is getting a little better at trying new things.  So, we were pretty much up for anything on our trip.  We knew we had to have seafood!   We were pretty exhausted when we made it to our rental house in Jamaica Beach, so we wanted something quick that we might be able to bring back to the house to eat.

Day 1 Eating in Galveston

We found a counter service restaurant in a strip mall that served shrimp on seawall boulevard just when we got into town.  I don’t remember the name of the place, and I’ve tried to search for it, but can’t find it.  It was really good!  We got fried shrimp and fries.  All four of us devoured it when we got it back to the house.

Day 2 in Galveston

We headed to Walmart in the morning to get supplies and a fishing license.  We ended up eating breakfast at the McDonald’s in Walmart.  Not very adventurous, but we were hungry and weren’t in the mood to find somewhere else to eat.

For lunch, we had a sub sandwich that we bought while we were at Walmart.  This is one of the great things about staying in a house.  We had a fridge for food and drinks and a nice place to sit and enjoy our meal.

By the time dinner time came around we were all tired from running around on the beach all day.  My husband wanted Sonic for dinner, but I wanted something different that we could not eat at home.  My oldest and I ran to Galveston to see if we could find something quick to bring home.  We really didn’t see anything that stood out.  I was hoping for a taco stand or a shrimp truck or something.  No luck.  So we went to Sonic.  Lol!  So our 2nd day was not at all adventurous.

Day 3

My husband cooked a big breakfast.  It was delicious, yet again another convenience of renting a house for our vacation.  Plus, it saved us money on eating a meal out.  For lunch, we ate in Galveston in the Strand (old downtown Galveston) at Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant.  This was our first sit-down restaurant since we made it to Galveston.  It’s a very nice place, and I was afraid we were not dressed well enough.  We had been crabbing on the beach earlier.  But, most people were dressed similar to us, so I felt fine.

Our server was excellent and we asked him what he would recommend.  He was very helpful. Everything was pretty pricey, but we decided this would be a splurge meal for us.  I ordered the Golden Tele and my husband ordered the Stuffed Whole Founder. Our oldest ordered fried shrimp and our youngest ordered a cheeseburger and fries. We tried to get her to order shrimp, but she insisted she wanted a burger and fries.

Our food was excellent! It was totally worth the money. We also had a great view of the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa. The girls went to look at the lobsters in the tank, and our waiter came over and got one out so they could touch it. Our youngest was a little timid at first, but she touched it.

After lunch, we walked around the Strand looking for souvenirs.  We stopped at La King’s Confectionery to get ice cream, they had a huge selection!  There was a line, but it was not too long.  My youngest got a big chocolate ice cream cone.  The oldest got a Harry Potter Butterbeer.  They had lots of candy and someone was pulling taffy while we were there.  It’s a great place to find all sorts of candy and sweets!  It was our favorite place we visited in the Strand.

We had leftovers for dinner that night at our vacation rental.  That saved us at least $20 (if we ate cheap fast food) from eating out.

Day 4 in Galveston/Moody Park

We ate a light breakfast at the house on our fourth day.  We spent almost all day at Moody Gardens and we ate at the Garden Restaurant.  They have a bunch of quick service/concession stand areas, but we decided to do the set-down restaurant.  They have a salad buffet and a full buffet, but we ended up ordering from the menu.

The prices were pretty decent, especially compared to the concession stand food.  We had a nice lunch, and our waiter was very attentive and friendly.  We had Taco Bell and Sonic for dinner that night.  Haha!  Food we can eat at home, but we were all tired and decided that the drive-through and taking the food to our house was the best idea!  Also, none of these fast-food restaurants are actually in the town we live (we only have Subway), so it’s still something out of the norm for us.

Day 5 in Galveston and cooking at our rental house

This was a day to relax!  Sometimes that is hard to do while on vacation, especially when there are so many things to do and see.  My husband cooked hamburgers and zucchini (that we brought with us from our garden) on the grill for lunch.  A simple and low-cost meal that tasted delicious!

My youngest and I had been swimming in the city pool that morning, so we were ready for lunch.  My oldest slept until almost noon that day.  Teenagers!!

I let my husband pick where we ate dinner, our last meal in town. He decided on Cajun Greek.I ordered shrimp Mediterranean, our oldest ordered fried shrimp and my husband ordered some kind of seafood stew. We just let my youngest have food from our plates. The food was delicious and spicy, but not too hot. I think the hush puppies were my favorite!   It turned out to be a great pick for our last dinner in town.

It is hard to say which was my favorite meal!  I think Fisherman’s Wharf was my favorite, but every meal we had was great.  There wasn’t a place we ate that I wouldn’t go back to.  There are so many more choices!  What’s your favorite place to eat in Galveston?
