How To Make A Glitter Water Bead Sensory Bottle

Welcome to Day 11 of 31 Awesome Days of Fall Activities With Your Kids.  Today we are showing you How To Make A Glitter Water Bead Sensory Bottle.  This activity is really fun and super easy for you to do with younger children.  My daughter really enjoyed watching the water beads expand.

My husband came to see what we were doing and decided we needed more beads in our bottle, which got to full when they started expanding.  I poured the overflow into a separate bowl.  All of us enjoyed the feel of the water beads after they expanded.  The water beads alone are great sensory play.  My daughter even got some of her plastic toys out and put them in the beads, playing and using her imagination.  It was pretty cute watching her.

My daughter decided to add the glitter at the end.  I think it came out pretty and shows the density difference with the glitter and the water beads.

What your child will get from this activity.

  • tactile sensory play
  • creativity
  • density
  • making choices (let them choose the bead & glitter colors)

Supplies

  • Empty water bottle
  • Glitter
  • Water beads
  • Baby oil

Instructions

  • Place the bead colors of your choice in your bottle and add water according to the instructions on the package.  The beads will expand a lot, so you won’t need a lot of beads.  You could also expand your beads in a separate bowl and add them to your water bottle after they expand.  I let my daughter choose if she wanted to mix the bead colors up or layer the colors like a rainbow.
  • Wait 4-5 hours for your beads to expand
  • Drain the water from your beads.
  • Add the baby oil.
  • Add the glitter.  We added about a 1/2 teaspoon of glitter.  You can use more or less.
  • Shake up your bottle, rotate it, twist it and watch the glitter and beads move.  It is honestly relaxing for me!

Conclusion

This was such a neat activity!  I keep on picking up this bottle and find myself playing with it.  Have you made a sensory bottle or used water beads?  Would you try this activity with your kids?  We would love to hear from you, please leave a comment below.
