Welcome to day 31 of 31 Awesome Days of Fall Activities With Your Kids. With all of the pumpkins in my garden, I’ve been busy looking for activities that involve pumpkins. How to Make A Pumpkin Sensory Bag is pretty simple, and a great sensory project for your child. You can also use it to practice counting, by counting the seeds in the bag.
What your kids will learn
- Sensory awareness
- Coloring inside of the lines
- Fine motor skills
- Counting
Supplies
- Pumpkin (you only need the guts and seeds) Carve a pumpkin and save what’s inside for this project.
- Ziplock bag, any size
- Permanent Marker
Directions How to Make a Sensory Pumpkin Bag
- I drew a pumpkin face on the baggy with a black permanent marker, then had my daughter fill it in with black.
- Carve a hole in the top of the pumpkin to remove the stem and top portion.
- Let your child pull out some of the seeds and guts.
- Place the seeds and guts inside the bag, just enough so it can spread around.
- Seal the bag. You may also add some tape to put an extra seal on the bag.
- Let your child enjoy squishing it and moving the seeds. Aske them to count the seeds.
Let your child play with this activity for a couple of days, then you will need to throw it away or add to your compost bin (the contents, not the baggy).
Conclusion
I really love the fall season and all the things pumpkins have to offer for children’s learning. This sensory activity is great for kids who don’t like to touch things that are “gross”. What is your favorite sensory activity for your child? Do you enjoy all things Fall?
